NATALIA SHAUFERT is a writer, professor, film director, and a witch (in her dreams). Born in the Republic of Moldova, Natalia’s career in film began alongside the revival of Moldovan cinematography from post-Soviet ashes. Her internationally awarded movies center on complex female protagonists. Her low-budget independent feature film RESENTMENT is streaming on Prime, while her shorts ANA and MOTHER NATURE introduced Moldova’s culture and stereotypes to audiences worldwide.
Through witchcraft, Natalia relocated to the USA and earned an MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU Tisch, where she discovered a passion for playwriting and writing novels. She is currently rewriting several plays, including a multiplot satire she plans to produce in Moldova. Her latest short film, YOU AND ME, inspired a feature screenplay challenging American maternity leave laws and the systemic disadvantages women face in the workforce.
She currently lives in Connecticut with her family, constantly confronted with the question: “Can we have a snack?” Natalia is holding her ground… for now.
